A possible method is proposed to modulate the nuclear
γ-decay constant which is related to the lifetime. When
the radioactive nucleus embedded in a compound
is placed between two silver plates and separated by 0.02
from each plate, the width of 81
excited level turns out
to be
at 4.2
, which is about 4%
narrower than the natural line width,
.
This implies 5.4% increase of the lifetime.
PACS: 21.10.Tg – Lifetimes / 23.20.Lv – γ transitions and level energies / 25.20.Dc – Photon absorption and scattering
