The deadtime correction for ion-trap particle detectors

When ion traps are used to store low-energy recoil protons in precision studies of neutron $\beta$-decay, decay events are lost when several protons are stored during a single trapping cycle and their detection is registered as a single event during the release phase. The correction for this deadtime effect, which is proportional to the trapping time, is analysed as a problem in Baysian statistics.
