The dynamics of granular materials in a two-dimensional rotating drum are investigated numerically. The velocity profiles parallel and perpendicular to the inclined surface are calculated and the dependence of the width of the fluidized layer on external parameters is studied. The results are validated by comparing some values with experimental data. In addition, the density profile perpendicular to the surface is studied and the importance of dilatation discussed.
