A method of detecting and imaging elastic waves and some of the fundamental visco-elastic properties of the matter by MR was analysed. The detection of the phase changes in the transverse magnetization component enables the spectroscopic analysis of absorption, scattering and emission of the elastic waves in the matter. This implies that the method can be used as an elastometric spectroscopy.
