A new model of a single-mode injected laser is developed in which the field is split into two components: the first has the eigenfrequency of the slave laser and the other is forced at the frequency of the master laser. A competition generally occurs between these components whose result depends upon various control parameters such as the intensity and the frequency of the injected field. The aim of the theory is the calculation of the injected-laser line shape. This is done for the first time for a single-mode He-Ne laser working at . The results are experimentally confirmed.
