We have performed X-ray absorption measurements on crystalline and liquid Te with a third-generation synchrotron radiation source obtaining extremely high-quality data. Reliable short-range pair correlation functions have been determined using ab initio multiple-scattering calculations taking into account the medium-range structure evaluated by previous neutron and X-ray scattering studies.
