The influence of the quantized centre-of-mass motion on the dynamics of a one-atom laser with a quantized field is investigated. Both the atom-field coupling and the decay channels depend on the motional state. It is demonstrated that sideband cooling can prevent the atom from heating up while laser action is maintained. Furthermore, the discrete nature of the motion is reflected in multiple vacuum Rabi splitting.
