Spontaneous three-dimensional pattern formation occurs in a passive nonlinear and dispersive ring cavity. A weakly nonlinear theory in the vicinity of the bifurcation point where these patterns emerge reveals the predominance of the body-centered cubic lattice structure over patterns of lower symmetry.
