Using DNA to probe nonlinear localized excitations?

We propose an experiment using micro-mechanical stretching of DNA to probe nonlinear energy localization in a lattice. Using numerical simulations and kinetics calculations we estimate the order of magnitude of the expected force fluctuations. They appear to be at the border of present experimental possibilities.
