Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) with chaotic field is considered for the constructive-interference case (i.e.,when the material transition is much narrower than the coupled one). The field intensity fluctuations are shown to induce a narrow peak at the material frequency, in addition to the familiar Autler-Towns doublet. The dependence of the fluctuation-induced peak on the field bandwidth ν is obtained analytically and numerically. EIT is shown to increase with ν for sufficiently small ν.
PACS: 42.50.Gy – Effects of atomic coherence on propagation, absorption, and amplification of light / 42.50.Hz – Strong-field excitation of optical transitions in quantum systems; multi-photon processes; dynamic Stark shift / 42.60.Mi – Dynamical laser instabilities; noisy laser behavior
