We investigate chaotic maps as generators of noise in bistable systems. The chaotic force generates complicated non-Gaussian behaviour, reflected in asymmetric stationary probability densities and escape times. We study how this non-Gaussian behaviour depends on the deterministic map we use to generate the chaotic force. For all such maps we find Langevin-like behaviour in the limit of vanishing time scale parameter.
