We study coherent two-quasiparticle tunneling in all-superconducting single-electron transistors in the framework of the tunneling Hamiltonian formalism. We discuss the interplay of the two-quasiparticle transfer and the superposition of charge states due to Cooper-pair transitions and calculate the tunneling rate. By using this rate in a master equation we compute complete current-voltage characteristics which we compare to recent experimental results.
PACS: 73.23.Hk – Coulomb blockade; single-electron tunneling / 74.50.+r – Proximity effects, weak links, tunneling phenomena, and Josephson effects
