We numerically investigate the dynamics and radiation of multiple charged ions in intense laser fields. The large magnetic component of the applied laser intensities in association with high electron velocities close to the ionic core results in an extremely high Lorentz force in the vicinity of the ionic core. As a consequence we observe an essentially vanishing mean expectation value of the electronic wave packet distinctively around the ionic core. At the end of the laser pulse the hollowing-out of the ion is reversed and gives rise to X-ray radiation.
PACS: 32.80.Rm – Multiphoton ionization and excitation to highly excited states (e.g., Rydberg states) / 42.50.Hz – Strong-field excitation of optical transitions in quantum systems; multi-photon processes; dynamic Stark shift / 33.40.+f – Multiple resonances (including double and higher-order resonance processes, such as double nuclear magnetic resonance, electron double resonance, and microwave optical double resonance)
