We consider the effects of a lattice of columnar defects (produced by
ionic bombardment through a periodically perforated mask) and find that
with commensurate matching the vortex-lattice melting is suppressed:
the temperature-field curve near has a series of plateaus.
Pin-spacing disorder above certain critical values washes out the plateaus.
PACS: 74.60.Ge – Flux pinning, flux creep, and flux-line lattice dynamics / 74.60.Ec – Mixed state, critical fields, and surface sheath
