Analytic and numerical solutions of a simple interaction site model for uncharged and charged non-intersecting platelets are used to analyze experimental data for the structure factor and the equation of state of Laponite clay suspensions. The model allows for orientational ordering of the platelets. Good agreement with experimental and simulation data is found.
