The theory of symmetry reductions of partial differential equations is applied to the generalized modified lubrication model with stable singularity-forming solutions. Some solutions with physical interest as travelling waves, source and sink solutions, waiting time ones and blow-up solutions are characterized. In particular some travelling wave solutions are determined, a heuristic argument for the analysis of their stability is provided, and some properties of the solutions are discussed.
