The kinematics of a model of purely structured turbulence are
compared with fully resolved Navier-Stokes solutions
corresponding to smaller numbers. Key kinematic
aspects of turbulence like the average growth of material lines
and surfaces, the tendency of the material length vectors to
align with the expansive rate-of-strain eigenvector and the
shapes of the joint histograms of the Lyapunov exponents of the
left stretch tensor are reproduced qualitatively. The ratios of
average values of the Lyapunov exponents (scaled with the
Kolmogorov time scale) are close but the absolute values differ
by a factor of 2.
