Parametric excitation of axions by intense electromagnetic radiation, in the absence of any static field, is considered here. The possible use of this process, as the basis for a new concept of active experiments on axions, using the existing ultra-intense laser systems, is compared with the existing passive experiments using static magnetic fields.
