Interaction of a short-pulse relativistic electron bunch with plasmas at different densities is investigated using cylindrically symmetric particle-in-cell simulation. The evolution of the bunch electrons as well as the background plasma electrons and ions are studied and compared for three different background plasma densities. Occurrence of large current peaks and turbulent small-scale plasma waves are shown.
