We study elastic buckling of a uni-axially pre-tensioned soft elastic film in proximity to a rigid contactor due to van der Waals interaction. By a linear analysis, we show that the film will buckle into stripes parallel to the tensile direction, with tunable spacing governed by the magnitude of the pre-tension. Such a regulating effect of pre-tension may find practical applications in generating precise surface patterns.
