A critique on the misuse of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation

The Gross-Pitaevskii equation, which is valid only for diffuse boson gases having purely positive interatomic potentials, continues to be used where this condition is not satisfied. An alternate formulation that is universally applicable is discussed.
