Two-photon absorption has been observed in diacrylate mesogens for a low-power continuous laser irradiation at 632.8 nm wavelength. The two-photon absorption coefficients for the mesogens in different phases are determined, and found to be very large. In the isotropic state, the two-photon absorption coefficients of diacrylate mesogen RM257 can reach (4.36 ±0.49)×10−4 cm/mW. A larger two-photon absorption coefficient ((5.20 ±0.59)×10−4 cm/mW) has been observed in the nematic phase RM257.
