In order to reproduce axial segmentation in the presence of internal fluctuations, we build a reaction-diffusion model which is based on elementary, microscopic processes. The comparison between the deterministic and the stochastic approaches proves that internal noise accelerates the formation of the periodic pattern, sustains it in a larger region of the medium and extends the parameter domain where it is stable.
