We study a dynamical dark energy candidate emerging from nonlinear electrodynamics in a Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker open universe, that is, a homogeneous and isotropic cosmological model whose spatial section has hyperbolic geometry k = −1. We investigate the possibility that a specific model satisfies current observational data of the Hubble parameter as a function of the redshift. Our results show that the accelerated scale factor obtained in this model accounts well for the observed cosmic expansion history of the universe. This suggests that nonlinear spin-one fields are possible candidates to model dark energy.
