The strong-collision model (SCM) for friction (energy dissipation) in condensed phase processes is considered. SCM assumes the instantaneous relaxation of the velocity distribution of a probe particle in the medium to the thermal distribution after each collision with surrounding particles. SCM is applied to the analysis of the kinetics of the passage over a parabolic barrier. Simple formulas for the passing rate (both exact and approximate) are derived and analyzed in detail.
