Abstract
We argue that a nanometer-size magnetic skyrmion in a nanotrack, formed by many atomic spins, may exhibit quantum phenomena such as energy quantization and tunneling through a classically impenetrable energy barrier. The possibility of using small skyrmions as qubits for topologically protected quantum information processing is discussed.
