Dynamical instability of the flux front in type-II superconductors

It is shown that a plane front of magnetic flux entering into a type-II super conductor manifests an instability. This instability is caused by the positive feedback between the front heating and vortex flux diffusion in the superconductor. The instability gives rise to a spatially inhomogeneous flux state in the sample.
